HomeGeneral PlumbingSink Installation

Installing a sink involves fitting the sink to the worktop, plumbing in the taps, connecting the waste, and making sure it doesn't leak. Undermount sinks need supporting properly or they'll sag. Inset sinks need sealing properly or they'll leak around the edges.

We'll install your sink (kitchen, bathroom, utility, whatever), fit the taps, connect the waste, and test it. If you're replacing a sink in the same location, it's straightforward. If you're moving it, we'll run new pipes.

There's no call-out fee when you book with us. Bring your own sink or we can supply one. We'll quote you before we start, and our 12-month guarantee is included with our membership plan.

Types of Sinks

Inset sink (drop-in)

The sink drops into a hole cut in the worktop and sits on a lip around the edge. Easy to fit. Seal around the edge with silicone to stop leaks. Most common type.

Undermount sink

The sink's mounted under the worktop so there's no lip. Looks neater but harder to fit. Needs supporting from underneath or it'll sag. Only works with solid worktops (granite, quartz, solid wood).

Belfast or butler sink

Big deep ceramic sink that sits on a cabinet or brackets. Heavy (30-40kg), so needs solid support. Popular in country kitchens and older Hull properties.

Wall-hung basin

Basin mounted on the wall with no pedestal. Needs solid wall fixings or it'll pull out. Common in small bathrooms and cloakrooms.

How We Install Sinks

1

Remove the old sink

We'll turn off the water, disconnect the taps and waste, and remove the old sink. We'll clean up the worktop or cabinet ready for the new sink.

2

Fit the new sink

We'll position the sink, seal it (inset sinks) or support it (undermount sinks), and secure it. Belfast sinks get bolted to brackets or sit on a cabinet.

3

Fit the taps and waste

We'll fit the taps to the sink, connect the hot and cold supplies, fit the waste trap, and connect the waste pipe. We'll make sure everything's tight and sealed.

4

Test and check for leaks

We'll turn the water on, run the taps, fill the sink, and let it drain. We'll check for leaks at the taps, the waste trap, and around the sink edges.

Sink Installation Process

Undermount vs top-mount

Undermount sinks sit below the worktop for easy cleaning. Top-mount (inset) sinks sit on top, easier to fit and replace.

Waste and trap fitting

We fit the waste outlet, trap, and connect to your existing waste pipe. If it's a new kitchen, we run new waste pipes where needed.

Sealing the sink

Proper sealing prevents water getting under the sink. We use silicone sealant for top-mount, epoxy adhesive for undermount.

Testing before handover

We fill the sink fully and check for leaks at all joints before we leave. No point discovering a leak after we've gone.

Got questions? Here's the quick answers.

How much does sink installation cost in Hull?
Inset sink fitting costs £120 to £200. Undermount costs £180 to £300. Belfast sink costs £200 to £300. We'll quote you based on what you've got.
How long does sink installation take?
A couple of hours for a straightforward inset sink. Undermount and Belfast sinks take longer (half a day) because they need more prep and support.
Can I buy the sink myself?
Yes. Just make sure it's the right size for the worktop and that you've got the right type (inset, undermount, whatever).
Will you cut the worktop hole?
For inset sinks, yes, if the worktop's already there. For undermount sinks, the hole needs cutting before the worktop's fitted, so that's usually the worktop fitter's job.
Do you take the old sink away?
Yes, if you want. We'll dispose of it.
Can you move the sink to a different location?
Yes. We'll run new hot and cold pipes and a new waste pipe to the new location. Costs more (£200-£400) depending on how far we're running pipes.
Will you supply the sink and taps?
Yes. We'll source a sink and taps and fit them. We'll quote you for everything together.
Can you fit a sink I bought online?
Yes, as long as it's the right size and type for your worktop.
