HomeGeneral PlumbingRe-piping & Pipework

Old pipes leak, corrode, and eventually fail. Lead pipes are a health risk. If you're renovating an older Hull property around Spring Bank or Newland Avenue, it's often worth replacing the old pipework with modern copper or plastic.

We'll run new pipework for renovations, replace old corroded pipes, or do a full house re-pipe if needed. We'll quote you for the work based on what you need and how accessible the pipes are.

There's no call-out fee when you book with us. We'll survey the job and give you a fixed-price quote. Our 12-month guarantee is included with our membership plan.

Signs You Need New Pipework

⚠️

Frequent leaks from old pipes

If you're fixing leaks every few months, the pipes are at the end of their life. Copper pipes corrode from the inside and develop pinhole leaks. Lead pipes crack and split. Replace them before you get a major leak.

⚠️

Old lead pipes

Lead pipes are a health risk, especially for children and pregnant women. If you've got lead pipes inside the house or on the supply from the boundary, replace them. Yorkshire Water will replace their section for free if you ask.

⚠️

Low water pressure or flow

Old 15mm copper or lead pipes restrict flow. Modern 22mm copper or 25mm plastic pipes give better flow and pressure. If you're renovating, upgrade the pipework at the same time.

⚠️

Renovating or extending

If you're doing a full renovation, new bathroom, or extension, it's the perfect time to replace old pipes. Once walls are open, it's easy. Leave it till later and it's a nightmare.

⚠️

Green corrosion (verdigris) on copper

Green staining on copper pipes means they're corroding. They'll develop pinhole leaks eventually. If you're seeing green corrosion on multiple pipes, consider replacing them before they fail.

What We Do When Re-piping

1

Survey and quote

We'll survey the existing pipework, work out what needs replacing, and give you a fixed-price quote. Full re-pipes (whole house) are priced based on number of bathrooms, kitchen, and accessibility.

2

Run new pipes

We'll run new copper or plastic pipes, securing them properly to joists and walls. We'll use the existing routes where possible (to avoid cutting new holes through walls and floors). If you're renovating, we'll run pipes in the new positions you want.

3

Connect to existing fittings

We'll connect the new pipes to taps, toilets, boilers, radiators, whatever's there. We'll replace any old isolation valves and fit new ones so each fitting can be isolated.

4

Test and commission

We'll pressure-test the new pipework to check for leaks, then turn the water back on and test every tap, toilet, and appliance. Once it's all working, job done.

Signs You Need Re-piping

Visible corrosion on pipes

Green staining on copper pipes, rust on steel pipes, or white calcification on lead pipes all indicate pipe degradation.

Frequent leaks

If you're getting leaks in different places, the pipes are probably past their lifespan. Better to replace than keep patching.

Brown or discoloured water

Rusty water comes from corroded pipes. It's not just ugly, it can damage appliances and fixtures.

Low pressure throughout house

If pressure is poor everywhere, internal corrosion has narrowed the pipe diameter. Re-piping restores full flow.

Got questions? Here's the quick answers.

How much does re-piping cost in Hull?
A partial re-pipe (one bathroom or kitchen) costs £300 to £800. A full house re-pipe costs £1,500 to £3,000+ depending on house size and accessibility. We'll survey the job and give you a fixed-price quote.
How long does a full re-pipe take?
A 2-bed house takes 2-4 days. A 3-bed house takes 4-6 days. Depends on how much pipework there is and how accessible it is. If walls are already open (renovation), it's quicker.
Will you make good walls and floors after?
We'll patch holes we've made to access pipes, but we won't redecorate. If you're doing a renovation and walls are open anyway, we won't need to cut many holes. If walls are finished, expect some making good afterwards.
Should I use copper or plastic pipe?
Copper lasts longer (50+ years) and handles heat better, so it's used for central heating. Plastic (PEX or MLCP) is faster to install, doesn't corrode, and is fine for cold water and hot water to taps. Most modern installs use a mix of both.
Do I need to replace all the pipes?
Not always. If only one section's corroded or leaking, we can replace just that bit. If the whole system's old (pre-1970s), it's worth doing the lot while walls are open. We'll advise based on what we find.
Can you replace pipes without lifting floorboards?
If pipes run under floors, we'll need to lift some boards. If pipes are clipped to walls or in cupboards, we can replace them without major disruption. We'll assess and tell you what's needed.
Will I be without water during the work?
Yes, while we're working. We'll turn the water off each day while we're on site and turn it back on when we leave (unless we're mid-job). For a full re-pipe, expect a few days without full water supply.
Should I wait till I'm renovating to re-pipe?
If your pipes are leaking frequently or you've got lead pipes, don't wait. Do it now. If the pipes are old but not leaking, wait till you're renovating so we can run new pipes while walls are open. It's much cheaper that way.
