Plumbing in a dishwasher is similar to a washing machine: cold water supply, waste connection, power socket. The waste needs an air gap or anti-siphon valve to stop dirty water being sucked back into the machine.

We'll install your dishwasher, connect the supply and waste, test it through a cycle, and check for leaks. If you're moving a dishwasher to a new location, we'll run new pipes.

There's no call-out fee when you book with us. We'll quote you before we start, and our 12-month guarantee is included with our membership plan.

What You Need to Plumb a Dishwasher

Cold water supply with isolation valve

Dishwashers need a dedicated cold water supply with a valve. If there isn't one, we'll tee off the cold supply under the sink and fit an isolation valve.

Waste connection with air gap

The waste hose connects to the sink waste or a separate waste pipe. It needs an air gap (the hose loops up high before dropping down to the waste) or an anti-siphon valve to stop dirty water being sucked back into the machine.

Power socket

Dishwashers need a 13A power socket. If there isn't one, you'll need an electrician. We're plumbers, not electricians.

Space under the worktop

Standard dishwashers are about 600mm wide, 850mm high, and 600mm deep. Make sure there's space under the worktop and that the machine will fit through the kitchen door.

How We Install Dishwashers

1

Fit the supply and waste connections

We'll tee off the cold supply under the sink and fit an isolation valve for the dishwasher. We'll connect the waste hose to the sink waste using a spigot or tee fitting. We'll loop the hose high (air gap) to stop siphoning.

2

Connect the dishwasher

We'll screw the dishwasher's supply hose onto the isolation valve and push the waste hose into the spigot. We'll secure the waste hose so it doesn't pop out during the drain cycle.

3

Test and check for leaks

We'll turn the water on, run the dishwasher through a quick cycle, and check for leaks at the supply connection, the waste connection, and under the sink. If it's all sound, job done.

Dishwasher Installation Requirements

Hot or cold feed

Most dishwashers heat their own water and only need cold feed. Hot feed can save energy but check your model's manual first.

Waste connection height

The waste hose must loop up higher than the machine to prevent dirty water flowing back. We fit it under the worktop at the correct height.

Isolation valve access

You need to be able to reach the valve to turn off water if the machine leaks. We fit it in the adjacent cupboard, not behind the machine.

Power socket location

The plug socket shouldn't be directly behind the machine where you can't reach it. We'll check before fitting and advise if rewiring is needed.

Got questions? Here's the quick answers.

How much does dishwasher plumbing cost in Hull?
If there's already a cold supply and waste connection, it's £80 to £120. If we need to fit new connections, it's £120 to £180. Relocating a dishwasher costs £150 to £250.
How long does dishwasher installation take?
About 30 minutes to an hour if the supply and waste are already there. Longer if we need to fit new connections under the sink.
Do you take the old dishwasher away?
We'll disconnect it and move it out, but we won't take it away. You'll need to arrange disposal yourself.
Can you install an integrated dishwasher?
We'll do the plumbing (connect supply and waste), but we won't fit the door panel or adjust the housing. That's a kitchen fitter's job.
Why does my dishwasher smell?
The waste hose might not have an air gap, so dirty water's siphoning back into the machine. We'll loop the hose high under the sink to create an air gap and stop it.
Can you move the dishwasher to a different location?
Yes. We'll run new cold supply and waste pipes to the new location. Costs £150 to £250 depending on distance.
Does a dishwasher need both hot and cold water?
No. Modern dishwashers only need cold. They heat the water internally.
Will you install the dishwasher if I bought it online?
Yes. We'll plumb it in and test it. Just make sure it fits the space before it's delivered.
