HomeBlocked DrainsHigh-Pressure Drain Jetting

Drain jetting uses high-pressure water (up to 4000 psi) to blast through stubborn blockages that rods can't shift. It's the best method for clearing grease build-up, tree roots, compacted silt, and years of accumulated debris in old Hull drains.

We'll feed a jetting hose down the drain from a manhole or access point, blast through the blockage, and flush the pipe clean. It's more thorough than rodding and often prevents the blockage coming back for longer.

No call-out fee when you book with us. We'll quote you before we start, and our 12-month guarantee is included with our membership plan.

When You Need Drain Jetting

⚠️

Recurring blockages that keep coming back

If you're getting the drain rodded every few months and it keeps blocking, there's a build-up of grease, scale, or roots that rodding can't fully clear. Jetting will clean the pipe properly and give you longer between blockages.

⚠️

Slow draining despite being rodded

If the drain's been rodded but still drains slowly, there's a partial obstruction or build-up on the pipe walls. Jetting will scour the inside of the pipe clean and restore full flow.

⚠️

Grease or fat build-up

Grease and cooking oil set solid in drains and catch everything else. Rods can poke a hole through it, but jetting will blast it off the pipe walls and flush it away completely.

⚠️

Tree roots in the drain

Tree roots form a tangled mass that rods can only partially clear. Jetting will cut through roots and flush them out. The roots will grow back eventually, but jetting gives you a year or two before the next clearance.

How Drain Jetting Works

1

Access the drain

We'll feed the jetting hose into the drain from a manhole, inspection chamber, or gully. The hose has a special nozzle that shoots high-pressure water forwards and backwards to blast through blockages and scour the pipe walls.

2

Jet the drain

We'll work the hose through the drain, blasting away grease, roots, scale, and debris. The water pressure is adjustable depending on the pipe material (lower for old clay, higher for plastic or cast iron).

3

Flush and test

Once we've jetted the full length of the blocked section, we'll flush it with clean water to wash away all the debris. We'll test it by running water from inside the house and checking it drains freely.

What Causes Stubborn Drain Blockages

Some blockages can't be shifted with rods alone. They need the power of high-pressure jetting to break them up and flush them away.

Grease and fat solidified in pipes

Cooking oil, fat, and grease poured down kitchen sinks cool and set solid in the drain. Over months and years it builds up like plaque in an artery, narrowing the pipe until it blocks completely. Rods can poke a hole through it, but jetting blasts it off the walls and flushes it away.

Tree roots forming a mat

Tree roots get into cracked clay pipes through joints and cracks, then spread into a dense mat that catches everything. Rods can push through temporarily, but jetting cuts the roots and washes them out properly.

Compacted silt and debris

Years of silt, sand, and organic matter settle in drains with poor fall or dips in the pipe. It compacts into a solid mass that rods struggle with. Jetting blasts it loose and flushes it away.

Scale and mineral deposits

Hull water is moderately hard, so limescale and mineral deposits build up on the inside of pipes over decades. Combined with soap scum and grease, it narrows the pipe bore. Jetting scours it off and restores full flow.

Got questions? Here's the quick answers.

How much does drain jetting cost in Hull?
Jetting up to 30 metres of drain costs £120 to £180. Longer runs (30-60m) cost £180 to £250. If we need to cut through heavy tree root growth, expect £150 to £220. We'll quote you before we start.
Is jetting better than rodding?
Jetting is more thorough. Rods poke a hole through a blockage, but jetting scours the pipe clean and removes build-up from the walls. For stubborn blockages (grease, roots, scale), jetting is much more effective. For simple blockages, rodding is usually enough and costs less.
How long does jetting take?
Most domestic drain jetting jobs take 30 minutes to an hour once we've set up and accessed the drain. Longer runs or very stubborn blockages can take up to two hours.
Will jetting damage old pipes?
Not if done properly. We adjust the water pressure to suit the pipe material. Old clay pipes get lower pressure, modern plastic can handle higher pressure. A well-maintained jetter in experienced hands won't damage pipes. Cowboy operators using too much pressure can crack old pipes, but we're careful.
How often should drains be jetted?
For domestic drains with no underlying issues, you shouldn't need jetting more than once every few years if at all. If you're getting recurring blockages from grease or roots, annual or biennial jetting might be needed until you fix the root cause (no pun intended).
Can jetting clear tree roots?
Yes, jetting will cut through tree roots and flush them out. But roots grow back, usually within 12-24 months. If roots are a recurring problem, the permanent fix is replacing the damaged section of pipe with new plastic pipe that roots can't penetrate.
Do you have a camera on the jetter?
Some jetting hoses have a camera built in, but ours doesn't. If you want to see inside the drain after jetting (to check for cracks, collapses, or remaining roots), we can run a separate CCTV survey. That's priced at £150 to £300 depending on how much pipe we inspect.
What if jetting doesn't clear the blockage?
If high-pressure jetting can't shift a blockage, it's usually a collapsed pipe, a solid object wedged in tight (like a brick or a kids' toy), or a major root ball. We'll run a CCTV survey to see what's causing it, then quote you for excavation and repair.
Is drain jetting messy?
Jetting brings up debris and dirty water from the drain, so there'll be some mess around the manhole or access point where we're working. We'll contain it as much as possible and hose down the area when we're done. If it's a really stubborn blockage with years of grease and sewage, it'll smell unpleasant while we're jetting, but the smell clears quickly once the drain's flowing again.
